About Holistic Veterinary Healing

We are so happy that you connected with us. Welcome to Holistic Veterinary Healing, where your pets will find a whole-listic approach to their healthcare. Our mission is to provide a balanced and gentle approach to your pet’s healthcare and, above all, cause no harm. Our services are integrated using both holistic and conventional medicine to bring balance.

Veterinary holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole animal — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one CAN achieve optimal health. The primary goal of holistic medicine practice is gaining proper balance in life.

Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole animal is made up of interdependent parts, and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if animals have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health. A holistic doctor will use all forms of health care, from conventional medicine to alternative therapies, to bring about optimal health and wellness.

Thus, when an animal suffering from vomiting and diarrhea pays a visit to a holistic doctor, instead of walking out solely with medications, the doctor will likely take a look at all the potential factors that may be causing the animal’s symptoms, such as other health problems, diet and sleep habits, stress, and emotional problems. The treatment plan may involve acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy, supplements, and drugs to relieve symptoms, but also lifestyle modifications to help prevent the issues. Also, X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, and CT scans may be further warranted to delve deeper to find the cause of the ingestion of a foreign body, tumors, etc.

We are AAHA Accredited

We are very excited to report that we have passed our accreditation again from The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).  It’s a very big deal as we don’t know of any other holistic veterinary practices that have this accreditation. Being AAHA accredited means that we have agreed to adhere to the highest standards of excellence in the veterinary profession. AAHA standards are developed by experts in the field and are updated regularly to help vets and their teams stay on top of the latest medicine and manage their practices well. You can learn more about this at https://www.aaha.org/your-pet/why-accreditation-matters/

Why would you consider us as your pet’s healthcare provider?

We have dedicated our personal and professional lives to providing Holistic healing for our patients. We believe that almost everything can be treated holistically and that our pets need better nutritional support and fewer vaccines. We also concentrate on our patient’s well-being, as having a more balanced life fosters a life free of dis-ease.

We offer holistic and conventional consults and will customize the care according to the individual need of your family pet. It could mean that we may have to combine both holistic and conventional methods to bring about healing. We perform vaccine titers instead of giving vaccines automatically when they are due, and we do not hesitate to refer you to other specialists if it is in the best interest of your pets.

We pride ourselves on working closely with you and your pet to offer the best professional medical care available. We are a high-quality specialty veterinary hospital that you and your pet both love to visit. We are dedicated not only to treating your pet but also to implementing preventative care to keep them healthy and happy.

Our experienced and qualified team provides services that aid in making pets thrive. Through continuing education, we stay up to date with the most recent developments within the veterinarian field and are devoted to exercising compassion in all of our interactions. Not only do we provide quality care to your pets, but we also support you as the caretaker.

History

Holistic Veterinary Healing (HVH) was the brainchild of Dr. Deb Mallu (then known as Dr. Pema Mallu) and Dr. Kitty Raichura.  In May of 2013, they were both working at a holistic veterinary hospital in Bethesda, MD, and they began to dream of opening their own hospital in an area of the county where holistic medicine was less accessible.  HVH opened on December 26, 2013, with just 3 staff members and high hopes for an integrative hospital that would care for cats and dogs, and sometimes rabbits, mind, body, and spirit.  Sadly, Dr. Kitty was only able to live this dream until March 2016, when she died from an aneurysm and subsequent stroke.  The HVH team has grown to include a 2nd part-time veterinarian, Dr. Ying Ngo, 11 staff members, and 2 part-time interns.  HVH became AAHA accredited in 2021. The HVH team promotes educating future veterinarians and vet assistants and provides loving and compassionate care to their patients in memory of Dr. Kitty.
